While interviews of our favorite celebrities sure are fun to watch, they sometimes get a little out of hand. Whether it’s asking about failed relationships or bringing up topics that are sensitive to them, interviewers do tend to cross the line at times. The same happened with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Arnold Schwarzenegger had a long relationship with his ex-wife Maria Shriver and the two have four children together. Having started their relationship back in 1977, they separated from each other in 2011 and had their divorce finalized a decade later. This was definitely a rough patch in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s life and when an interviewer decided to try and bring it up, the actor turned him down pretty quickly.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Shuts an Interviewer Down
During an Australian speaking tour, Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared on a morning show which took a turn he probably didn’t think it would. Whatever may be the reason, the interviewer thought it would be a good idea to bring up Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s failed marriage. Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, didn’t think of it as a good idea.
Shriver and Schwarzenegger separated in 2011 as the former filed for divorce after finding out that he had an affair with their maid, Mildred Baena. Not only did Schwarzenegger have an affair with Baena, but he was also the father to her son, Joseph. Even after the divorce Shriver and Schwarzenegger reunited on special occasions like birthdays and graduations for the sake of their children. The two finally settled their divorce in 2021, ten years after their separation.
During the morning show, Schwarzenegger was supposed to be discussing the positives of his career. However, when the interviewer brought up the topic of Shriver, the actor was not going to fall for it. The interviewer asked, “You previously said you’re hopeful for a reunion with Maria Shriver one day, do you still feel that way?”
While it might have been out of the blue, the former Governor of California handled the situation with elegance stating that words coming out of his mouth will only be about his professional life and not personal. When further instigated by the interviewer who asked if he was worried the failures would overpower the success, Schwarzenegger stated,
“People are very much aware of the successes, and a perfect example is I was invited to Australia to talk about my successes, that just says it all.”
While the Predator actor could have lost his cool during the interview, it looks like he came more prepared than the interviewers would have liked. No matter how much he was poked, Schwarzenegger would not let the topic go off the rails.
When Arnold Schwarzenegger Lost his Cool
Sure he managed to handle himself pretty well during the morning show but later in 2016, things turned out to be a bit different. During an interview (in Australia again), he was asked about his views on Donald Trump. Since the interview was supposed to be about his fitness and health, Schwarzenegger didn’t like the question one bit and stated, “This is an interview that I only do about fitness and health, not about politics or about relationships.” He continued stating that continuing with his work, fitness, and health is what truly counts to him.
Schwarzenegger’s publicist later issued a statement stating that the journalist was new on the show and was probably just trying to make a name for herself. The publicist also added that the line of questioning was inappropriate.
