Henry Cavill has stacked up a gleaming portfolio with some of the most profitable projects ever. While DC films like Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice broke box office records and churned incredible numbers, Cavill’s Netflix ventures including The Witcher and Enola Holmes too, garnered a colossal audience.
With such critically acclaimed and commercially triumphant projects to back him up, the British actor probably wouldn’t break a sweat on losing out a couple of roles here and there. But if the said roles had to do with humungous, billion-dollar franchises, then that loss would certainly be something to grieve for. Especially if you’re a budding star and the same actor ends up outshining you not once but twice.
Talk about rubbing salt in the wounds.
The 2 Franchises Henry Cavill Lost to Robert Pattinson
Former DC star and a forever fan-favorite, Henry Cavill is a mighty accomplished actor in Hollywood today. But as every other self-made name in the industry goes, Cavill too, encountered his fair share of struggles while he climbed the ladder of success. That included getting robbed of golden opportunities that ended up going to another rising star instead.
Like Cavill, Robert Pattinson, who made his DC debut with 2022’s The Batman, is also an established actor in the film industry with a career spanning nearly two decades. Much of the fame and recognition that the latter amassed can easily be attributed to his early days when he starred in epic franchises including those of Harry Potter and Twilight, both of which Cavill yearned to be a part of back then. But Pattinson managed to put a lock on both the franchises and it certainly doesn’t help that he landed the same leading roles that Cavill had auditioned for before him.
2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire witnessed Pattinson depict the wizard, Cedric Diggory on-screen, who served as one of the main characters in the film. Three years later, the 37-year-old would then go on to star in yet another hit film adaptation, Twilight. If only fate would’ve been in Cavill’s favor, he could’ve been the face of both roles instead.
Is There Animosity Between the Two Hollywood Hotshots?
Between all five Twilight films, the franchise grossed a little over $3.4 billion worldwide, and was crowned as one of the most successful franchises of all time, the Harry Potter movies managed to gather $10 billion across the globe. That brings the total to a stupefying $13 billion.
Since Pattinson bagged not one but two roles that the Immortals star was going after, one would think the latter must have harbored at least some amount of bitterness toward the former. Not to mention, Pattinson is believed to be sitting on a huge net worth of roughly $100 million, a huge chunk of which is thanks to Twilight. Cavill’s net worth, on the other hand, is skirting around half of the former’s money.
Despite everything though, Henry Cavill never held any resentment toward Robert Pattinson and neither has he ever expressed any sour feelings concerning the same.
The Twilight films can be rented on Amazon Prime Video or can be viewed on Paramount + with a subscription.
