Following his rise to stardom after starring in James Cameron’s Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio’s charm and cuteness was overwhelming for the female demographic of his fans and several costars at the time. Among them, one was Amy Adams, who initially developed a huge crush on the actor, even before his eventual rise to stardom.
And things would initially work out for the actress, as she would soon get the opportunity to star alongside her longtime crush in Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can. Unfortunately, working in this movie would eventually kill her crush on The Revenant star, but not in a bad way.
Kissing Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t pan out the way Amy Adams imagined
Considering that Amy Adams had a longtime crush on Leonardo DiCaprio, filming the kissing sequence for their film, Catch Me If You Can, wasn’t as glamorous as she would have preferred. Although she loved working on the movie and enjoyed filming the kissing sequence, considering that Adams had to be the aggressor at the moment, it wasn’t how she imagined kissing DiCaprio in her head. While reflecting on the aggressive kissing sequence, the Man of Steel star expressed that she was initially nervous before going into it, as the actress had to be the aggressor in it. She said,
“That was all nerve-wracking simply because I had to be the aggressor. It’s not how I saw the scene, of course… So to be the aggressor on our second day of filming and like launching onto him, essentially. And like having to tip him back in the chair, and tip him at the right angle to hit the pad, you know, it takes some of the intimacy out of the moment in for Amy, but Brenda was enjoying it”
However, aggressively kissing Leonardo DiCaprio on her second day of shooting might have been stressful at the beginning, as it eventually killed her crush on the actor.
Working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio killed Amy Adams’ crush
While recalling the memories of filming Catch Me If You Can, Amy Adams expressed that working alongside his longtime crush eventually killed the crush she had on Leonardo DiCaprio. However, she clarified that it wasn’t something she regretted and had fun crafting the movie, as Adams explained the reasoning behind the situation by stating,
“Because nothing really kills a crush faster than working with somebody—not in a bad way! Not in a bad way! Just sort of like—[killed it] in a great way! ‘That was over!’ But no, like you get to know him and it’s not like the fantasy of the person anymore. Now it’s Leo.”
Even though playing the role of Brenda Strong squandered her fantasy about the Titanic star, the movie did eventually pave the way for the Man of Steel actress’ eventual rise to stardom.
Catch Me If You Can is available to stream on Apple TV.
