Warner Bros. has finally unveiled the first teaser trailer for Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will hit theaters in just over three months.
The first movie, Aquaman (2018), became an instant hit thanks to Momoa’s charismatic portrayal of Arthur Curry/ Aquaman and the breathtaking underwater setting. The 2018 movie, which received mixed reviews from critics, ended up being the fifth-highest-grossing movie of that year and the 20th-highest-grossing movie of all time.
Fans are ecstatic and curious after the highly anticipated sequel Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom recently unveiled its first teaser (on Sunday). Amber Heard, who plays the role of Mera, was, however, noticeably absent from the teaser.
The Zombieland actress’ involvement in the upcoming James Wan film had long been questioned because of her legal disputes with her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
Amber Heard Is Noticeably Absent In Jason Momoa’s Aquaman 2 Teaser
The teaser trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was just released (on Sunday), and it featured Amber Heard’s character Mera for the first time. Her role in the Aquaman sequel appears to be in jeopardy due to the public defamation lawsuit between Heard and actor, Johnny Depp.
But it was said that Heard’s Mera would still play a significant part in the upcoming sequel. Mera received a lot of screen time in the 2018 film Aquaman, in which she co-starred with Jason Momoa.
One significant aspect of his first appearance is that Mera seems to be wearing a similar greenish suit from the first Aquaman movie. On September 14, the first full trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released. Mera would probably get a closer look at it.
Due to the controversy surrounding the film caused by Depp and Heard’s public trial last year, the release of the movie’s first trailer has been prolonged. It was earlier suggested that the producers were trying to find a new candidate for the role of Mera after questions about Heard’s casting role surfaced.
Amber Heard on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Amber Heard gained extreme media attention after her highly publicized legal battle with her former husband, Johnny Depp. Even though the legal dispute at first glance seemed unrelated to her line of profession, it undoubtedly had an impact on her reputation and cast doubt on whether she would continue working in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The actress, 37, admitted to Deadline that she has high hopes for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom despite DC’s recent run of superhero flops:
“Oh, of course. These are very different kinds of projects representing two very different ends of the spectrum in my industry. There’s a ton of pressure on these big franchise movies, with millions and millions of dollars at stake, and compromises are part of trying to make it the most successful thing it can be. Then on the other end of the spectrum is a small indie film like ‘In The Fire,’ a work of art and work of love, with nowhere near the same resources, and so there are compromises there. The best luck you can have as an actor is to be able to balance both.”
Heard also acknowledged that she is “honored” to be a part of the Aquaman franchise and expressed surprise that her role as Mera in Aquaman 2 has remained:
“‘Aquaman’, that franchise and the machinery behind it, I’m very honored, honored to be a part of that. And then there are these small passion projects like ‘In The Fire,’ where I’m proud to have gotten to know the filmmaker and the cast, and we got dirty together, to breathe life into this story. There’s something cool about that, and I think success is an actor who is able to have both those things.”
The film also stars Patrick Wilson, Randall Park, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, and Jason Momoa.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to be released on December 20, 2023.
