Widely remembered for her iconic role as Sue Storm or The Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four franchise, Jessica Alba has always been praised as one of the most phenomenal actresses in the movie industry. She has an innate talent to express the emotional highs and lows of the characters she portrayed in a film, allowing her to appear in different genres of films, which showcased her talent, mesmerizing the viewers.
Jessica Alba was on top of the world, but after she had her first child in 2008, she kind of vanished from the spotlight, and it was not because she was not getting enough roles. Instead, she thought of making a difference through the exposure she was blessed with.
Jessica Alba Stopped Acting Due to Health Concerns
Jessica Alba was in the prime of her career during the mid-2000s. Movies, TV shows, and magazines, you name it, and she was there. Hollywood could not get enough of the actress, however, after she played some of the most iconic roles in her career, she seemed to disappear from smash-hit box office blockbuster films. And in 2008, her becoming a mother, was followed by her retirement from acting when she was at the peak of her career. She then started her own brand of personal care products called The Honest Company.
During an exclusive interview with Romper, Jessica Alba shared how health was a major concern for her, as her mother had cancer at a young age, and because of it, she suffered from chronic illness and had “5 surgeries” before she turned 11 years old.
“My mother had cancer at a really young age, in her early 20s. I grew up with chronic illness. I had five surgeries before I was 11 years old. I had chronic allergies, and I was hospitalized a lot as a child.”
Alba continued that during her pregnancy, her health and the health of her child remained the top priority, and shared how she would love to spend time with her child and be a part of the little person’s life that “I’m bringing into the world.” She explained how important health is to remain happy in this world.
“I had this real moment of, I want to live, and thrive, and spend as much time with this little person that I’m bringing into the world as possible and stay. So, my health matters. I want this little person to be healthy. And it’s really freaking hard to be happy when you don’t have your health.”
This mindset led Jessica Alba to retire from acting and become an entrepreneur, forming her personal care brand, The Honest Company.
Jessica Alba’s Motivation to Start The Honest Company
In the same interview with Romper, the Dark Angel actress shared how she was not at all concerned about working in the movie industry, and she acknowledged how her company was bigger than her acting career. She said that with her company, she could bring a meaningful change in the lives of millions of people around the world.
“My motivation was not like, ‘Am I ever going to get hired again?’ Frankly, I was at the top of my career. I couldn’t go back to what I was doing before and be authentic. I just couldn’t. I just didn’t care about it anymore the same way. It was something bigger. I felt like if I was going to, I guess, sort of get this platform, what can I do with it that could be meaningful and make a difference.”
Jessica Alba’s brand empowers people to choose beyond what’s good for people and what works for them, allowing their consumers to live happily and enjoy a healthy lifestyle with chemical-free products, which are honest from the inside out. Alba’s business venture was a massive hit, and as per valuation, it is estimated that the price of her personal care products brand is $1.4 billion.
