Hollywood has no restrictions when it comes to how actors transform their bodies for a role. One of the most talked-about transformations in history involved Mila Kunis for the movie Black Swan.
Kunis and Natalie Portman’s outstanding performances in the movie garnered widespread attention. Both have put a lot of effort into shaping their bodies to fit their respective roles. The film, which was nominated for five Academy Awards, is an engrossing thriller about the shadowy world of ballet. The concept of fusing ballet with horror is absolutely brilliant, and it worked.
But did you know that Portman and Kunis started their training six months before the start of filming to acquire a physique and muscle tone more akin to those of professional dancers? Moreover, the Ted actress lost 20 pounds, from her normal weight of about 117 pounds.
There are many more facts about the film.
Mila Kunis Lost ‘20 Pounds’ For Black Swan
The sudden and drastic weight loss is a topic of conversation every time it occurs, especially when actors are involved. And Mila Kunis gave a standout performance in her psychological horror movie in 2010, and her transformation was unbelievable. She underwent a significant transformation to help her get into character, and as a result, she was able to portray Lily convincingly.
In order to play a ballerina in the psychological thriller, the actress, now 40, earlier revealed how she went on a binge-eating spree following months of dieting. She slimmed down to just over six and a half stone to play the part.
However, as soon as the filming was over, she gorged herself on all of her favorite foods, as she told Daily Mail:
“After production ended the first thing I did was go get Panda Express at the airport terminal at Virgin America at JFK. Then I landed in LA and I got in my car and I drove to In and Out and I had a Double Double animal style with a root-beer float; and it was fantastic!”
Kunis, who appeared in the film alongside Natalie Portman, continued:
“It took me five months to lose 20 pounds, and it took me hours to gain it back!”
She also acknowledged that her family was worried about her extreme weight loss:
“My mum freaked out. She was like ‘You have to promise me his isn’t going to affect you’. I was like, ‘I promise it won’t, but it might take me a little time to be OK with having a little more fat on me.’”
She Was Grossed Out to See Her Body Transformation
While Mila Kunis is renowned for having a typically curvy figure, she admitted that she hated seeing her shapeless form in the mirror. In the same interview, she expressed her disgust with her feeble body in a fairly outspoken manner, adding:
“I could see why this industry is so f***ed up, because… I would literally look at myself in the mirror and I was like: ‘Oh my God! I had no shape, no boobs, no ass…’ All you saw was the bone. I was like ‘this looks gross’.”
The actress expressed her surprise at how demanding the training for her role had been:
“In real life I looked disgusting but in photographs and on film, it looked amazing.”
After Black Swan, Kunis admitted in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar that her body has “never been the same” and that her shape has changed:
“When I got down to 95 pounds, I was muscles, like a little brick house, but skin and bones. When I gained it back, it went to completely different areas.”
After working on Black Swan, the actress also became aware of the difficulties that dancers face. She stated in a Vogue interview:
“I can’t even put into words to you how competitive the ballet industry is. They work their entire lives to try to achieve perfection that is inevitably impossible. And their career ends at 35, at best.”
The actress showed that she is just as dedicated and talented as her peers, and many people were in awe of her transformation. The movie received a lot of positive reviews, with particular attention paid to Darren Aronofsky’s direction and Natalie Portman, Kunis, and Barbara Hershey’s performances.
