Who Is Ahsoka?
While Ahsoka Tano had her live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian, she was first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The character was created by Dave Filoni, who directed the animated film and acts as a companion for Anakin Skywalker. The film follows the story of Anakin and Ahsoka as they try to rescue the kidnapped son of Jabba The Hut, which was done in a conspiracy to turn Jabba against the Galactic Empire. Ahsoka joins Anakin as a young Jedi Padawan, sent by grand master Yoda.
Despite the negative reviews for the film, Ahsoka returned to The Clone Wars animated series and gained much appreciation. She also made an appearance as a recurring character in Star Wars Rebels. Apart from the animated series, she was featured as a voice cameo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Ahsoka was also featured in the novel Ahsoka which was set between the events of Clone Wars and Rebels. The novel was also adapted into the revival of Clone Wars as well as Tales of the Jedi. The character was voiced by Ashley Eckstein.
Her first appearance, with Rosario Dawson playing her, was in the second season of The Mandalorian. She is in conflict with Imperial magistrate Elsbeth and meets the Mandalorian and the child. She is the one who reveals that the child’s name is Grogu. In the end, the Mandalorian and Ahsoka team up and defeat Elsbeth, to whom Ahsoka asks the whereabouts of Admiral Thrawn, who will be the antagonist in the Ahsoka series.
What Do We Know About Ahsoka So Far?
Ahsoka will be set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. It will see Ahsoka trying to team up with old friends in order to fight the eventual threat of Admiral Thrawn. The trailer of the series, which was released a few weeks ago, hints at her reuniting with her old Ghost Squadron and her hunt for Thrawn and her lost friend Ezra Bridger. Joining Ahsoka in her quest to defeat Thrawn, her old foe from the Rebels series, are familiar as well as fresh faces.
First, we have Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla. Hera was the pilot of the Ghost crew and fought with the rebels against the Empire. She will be seen as a member of the New Republic and one of the few who sees the rise of Admiral Thrawn. Late actor Ray Stevenson plays Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi Knight who becomes a mercenary. The trailers have set him up as a looming threat as he teams up with old foe Magistrate Elsbeth and wreaks havoc in the galaxies.
Hayden Christensen returns as Anakin Skywalker in the series. Christensen played the young padawan who tragically goes to the dark side and eventually turns into Darth Vader. The character has a history with Ahsoka, as she joins him as a young apprentice during The Clone Wars. The favorite actor of every fandom David Tennant is all set to make a vocal appearance as the architect droid Professor Huyang, reprising his role from the Rebels series.
The most anticipated character, however, seems to be Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. The actor brought the menacingly evil vibe of the character previously in the Rebels series, albeit only through voice. The actor will now be reprising the role in live-action. The actor is not new to playing antagonists as he starred as Charles Augustus Magnusson in BBC’s Sherlock. Other characters such as Morgan Elsbeth, Shin Hati, Ezra Bridger, and Sabine Wren are all set to make recurring appearances as well.
Ahsoka will stream on Disney+ from August 23, 2023.
