The new CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran appeased the DC fans when they announced the new Superman movie. However, the lead of the new and young version of Superman will not be played by our beloved Henry Cavill. The fans are disappointed as the Man of Steel could not get the appropriate farewell of a superhero. Gunn has not yet revealed the new actor who will play the role of Supes, but a recent poll about the movie has got the fans amped up.
As per recent updates, James Gunn is writing the story of the upcoming Superman movie. The story revolves around a young Clark Kent and his journey to becoming the beloved superhero. The hero of the movie will be a younger actor in comparison to Henry Cavill. While rumors are abuzz about the new Superman, Gunn recently teased the fans about the return of the villains in his upcoming project. Among the mentioned villains of Superman movies, there are strong indications that Deathstroke is the top choice for the film.
James Gunn Teases a Deathstroke Return
A recent Twitter post by James Gunn has several DC characters, both heroic and villainous. While replying to fans’ comments, the DC co-CEO teased that at least half of them would be making a comeback to the DCU shortly. But he has not yet confirmed which ones would be on the slate. Deathstroke was one of the names on the list, hence, there is a high chance of him coming back.
Joe Manganiello is the only actor to play Slade Wilson or Deathstroke in a live-action movie. He appeared in two DCEU projects, but his screen presence was limited, and fans wished to see more of him. Manganiello was part of 2017’s Justice League, siding with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. Later he also appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, collaborating with Batman’s Knightmare.
Supervillain Deathstroke has never been the main antagonist in a DC movie. The plan to feature him as the main antagonist in The Batman fell through as that project was rebooted by Matt Reeves.
Did Joe Manganiello Tease Deathstroke’s Future in DCU?
Earlier, ComingSoon asked Joe Manganiello if he was optimistic about portraying Deathstroke more in-depth in the future, and the actor responded that he had let go of that dream. But months later, he shared a picture of Deathstroke on his social media with the captions, ‘new profile pic’. The picture might serve as a major hint towards his comeback to the fold.
As a matter of fact, Deathstroke was once penciled in to lead James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad but was replaced by Idris Elba’s Bloodsport during the filming phase. However, Gunn has liked numerous posts of Manganiello about Deathstroke, inadvertently fuelling that fire.
James Gunn’s Superman will start filming soon and is set to premiere in 2024.
