After Zachary Levi's Serious Accusation of Not Promoting Shazam 2 Enough, Warner Bros Releases Alternate Ending For Shazam

Shazam: Fury of the Gods has been in the theatres for a 2nd week, and things continue to work poorly for the superhero sequel, as it took a massive nosedive at the Box Office. The disappointing sequel managed to collect only $9.7 million in the second week. Despite getting bombed by critics and fans, the film was enjoyable for some.

Zachary Levi was clearly disappointed, as he had earlier criticized DC Studios for not promoting the film enough, which led to its failure. However, Warner Bros. decided to retrogress back in time, by uploading an alternate ending for Shazam! which was not well received by the audience.

Warner Bros. Entertainment Releases an Alternate Ending for Shazam!

While Zachary Levi was unhappy because his sequel was not marketed enough, Warner Bros. decided to post a deleted ending for the 2019 film. The alternate ending was initially available on the movie’s home media until the company made it available on YouTube for free.

David F. Sandberg who directed both Shazam! films tweeted an explanation, and how he finds these deleted scenes quite “uncomfortable.” According to the filmmaker, these deleted scenes are too rough to work with and it never worked out because they could not get the scene to fit in the film.

“The alternate ending was a backup we shot in case the cameo at the end didn’t work. The alternate had all the kids transform and fly off to stop a hostage situation.”

“It always feels a bit uncomfortable including deleted scenes. Not only were they cut for a reason, they’re always very rough too since work was stopped on them. It’s a little like giving a lecture in your underwear. I figure it’s worth it though since some find it interesting.”

But what was shown in the alternate ending that could not be finalized for the film? And was it good enough to replace the ‘Headless Superman’ cameo shown in the film?

Zachary Levi Criticises DC Studios for not Promoting the Sequel enough

After the sequel was bombed on social media platforms, Zachary Levi went on Twitter where he did not hold back from criticizing the poor performance of the film. A fan stated that Snyder fans are delighted with the failure of the sequel because the franchise is not continuing with Zack Snyder. The Chuck actor replied that he agrees with him, but the real reason for the failure of the sequel was poor marketing. And casual moviegoers did not know that sequel would release this month.

“This is also true. Sad, but true. How much that actually affects the box office is anyone’s guess. But I think the biggest issue we’re having is marketing. This is a perfect family movie, and yet a lot of families aren’t aware of that. Which is just a shame.”

This is true because there has been little to no marketing for the sequel of Shazam! As a result, there was no hype or buzz for the film, which was one of the main results of its poor performance. Because despite the first film having a low budget, there was a lot of marketing which helped in the success of the first film.

The Alternate Ending of Shazam!

Recently, the official YouTube channel of Warner Bros. Entertainment posted an alternate ending for Shazam! The clip started with the Shazam Family going out to their backyard with their foster parents to look at an enormous Christmas tree that they had set up.

The clip then cuts to ‘some time later’ where we see the kids sitting on the couch watching cartoons. They were bored but a piece of news shows a hostage situation downtown. The kids rush outdoors, shout the magic word “Shazam!” and jetted off to save the day.

The newly posted alternate ending for the first film was not as exciting as the finalized ending of the ‘Headless Superman.’ However, this ending was heartwarming, as the family lit up the Christmas tree together.
