After Repeated Humiliation, Henry Cavill Soothes Fans, Makes DCU Return as Kingdom Come Superman in One of the Most Insane Fanarts

We all know what went down at the DC Studios last year. Just like a breathtaking sunrise, Henry Cavill’s return to the superhero world was both beautiful and short-lived. After James Gunn and Peter Safran made it crystal clear that there is no place for Henry Cavill’s Superman in their vision, fans were heartbroken and furious.

While it has been nearly impossible for fans to come to terms with Henry Cavill’s Superman farewell, they are coping. However, thanks to an artist, fans can get a glimpse into what the superhero’s future could have looked like. A fan art shows an older version of Henry Cavill’s Superman and what the character could have looked like in Kingdom Come.

Alex Ross’ Elseworld story, Kingdom Come, shows Superman and the rest of the Justice League abandoning their superhero duties as the world welcomes new heroes. There was a huge chance that fans could get to see a DCU film revolving around Kingdom Come, had things gone in a different direction. However, with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new vision, new characters, and a younger Superman, the idea seems as good as gone now.

But hey! We will take what we get even if it is just fan art. An artist, who goes by the name Skull101fy on Instagram, posted a bunch of fan art of Henry Cavill depicting him as an older Superman. The artist writes, “A lot of people want Henry to return to DC as Kingdom Come Superman and I thought I’d show people how he could look in the role.” The original photos are from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

It looks like fans desperately want Cavill to make his return as Superman, even if it is an older version of the character. It goes without saying that superhero fanatics will always have a place for Cavill’s Superman in their hearts.

Henry Cavill Never Gave up on Superman

While people might have given up on Cavill and his Superman, the actor held on to hope until the day he got to put the suit back on. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor was very ecstatic talking about his return. He stated that the character means a lot to him and that there is a bright future ahead for his Superman.

“The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope. It’s amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I am so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”

Insert crying face emoji here.

While fans will never forget Cavill’s contributions to the character, the ball is now in Gunn’s court. Superman: Legacy has to be absolutely mind-blowing so that it justifies Cavill’s removal. If not, the fans might have a bone to pick.

Superman: Legacy is set to release in theatres on July 11, 2025.
