After Making a Whopping $57M, Mark Wahlberg Promised to Return to Iconic Franchise Under 1 Condition

Mark Wahlberg is undoubtedly one of the A-list action stars of Hollywood. Movies like Uncharted, Deepwater Horizon, and Max Payne, among other action films, adorn his filmography. But it can’t be denied that the two Transformers films catapulted him to another level of fame as well as wealth.

As such, ever since Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight, fans have wondered if Wahlberg will return for another film to complete his trilogy. The actor is reportedly open to starring in another Transformers film but only under one condition.

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) was made on a budget of $210 million and grossed $1.104 billion globally. The sequel, Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) made $605 million on a $217 million to 260 million budget. So the two films definitely made their mark felt at the box office. However, Mark Wahlberg didn’t return for another film.

So will the action star return for a third Transformers film starring him? In an interview with Screen Rant, the actor revealed that he will only return if Michael Bay helmed the film. The actor said, “Yeah, I don’t know. That would be up to the powers that be when they go into the think tank and figure it out. But I really just signed on to work with Michael. We had a great experience in Pain & Gain, so you know… if there’s no Michael there’s probably no me.”

However, the action star also hinted that he wasn’t really campaigning to return as there were other films he was interested in doing. He once said to Fandango, “I’ve done it enough, and I’ve had a great time doing it. I’m going out with a bang on this one (The Last Knight), and I feel like you gotta go out while you’re ahead, you know. I think I’ve had a good run, and I’ve got a lot of other movies I want to do.” Also, there’s probably another reason why he isn’t too interested in making another Transformers film.

As per Celebrity Net Worth, Mark Wahlberg is worth $400 million. A little chunk of it was contributed by Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight. His first Transformers movie made over a billion at the global box office and as per Statistic Brain, he was paid $17 million for appearing in it.

There’s speculation that he could have been paid more when the profits came in, but that number isn’t publicly available. Since Age of Extinction joined the billion-dollar club, so the actor demanded more money for the sequel and he got it as well. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the actor made $40 million for The Last Knight. This is the kind of money actors only dream of but Wahlberg actually got it.

As such, there seemingly isn’t any financial incentive for him to make another film to complete the trilogy. Also, since The Last Knight grossed just $605 million, notably lesser than Age of Extinction’s billion, producers are probably wary of making another one. But fans will be hoping that one day Wahlberg will step into the world of transforming cars and machines once again.
