It seems like actor Jason Statham’s influence couldn’t save his latest movie, Meg 2: The Trench. The movie is all set to release in the United States on 4th August 2023, however, the results of early test screenings have been a disaster. On top of that, critics have already given the movie an embarrassing rating.

The Meg, released in 2018, was surprisingly a commercial success, however, the movie received terrible reviews. Will the sequel also receive the same treatment? As of now, the movie stands at a 0% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The terrible reviews have started to flood in and people have already made jokes about it on social media.

The first movie somehow managed to earn big, but will the second movie live up to its hype? As of now, the movie got a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is all set to release worldwide on 4th August 2023. In this latest installment, Statham’s character comes across colossal, prehistoric sharks and he must find a way to outrun, outsmart, and outswim them.

Social media is a ruthless place and now Meg 2: The Trench must face the trolls for its ridiculous critics rating. Fortunately, many have defended the movie claiming that the audience score will be way higher as the movie seems to have potential.

Recently, Jackie Chan and John Cena’s Hidden Strike also suffered the same fate as it opened with terrible ratings on Rotten Tomatoes but managed to earn a decent audience score. The Meg (2018) currently stands at a 46% rating from the critics and a 43% rating from the audience. Despite these poor ratings, The Meg was not a complete waste of money.

The Meg (2018) earned more than $500 million

Directed by Jon Turteltaub, 2018’s The Meg contained many action-packed sequences that managed to attract the audiences, however, the movie received mixed reviews from critics for its predictable plot and cringe cliches. One thing that was praised by everyone was Jason Statham’s outstanding work as Jonas Taylor in the movie.

In the end, Warner Bros.’s decision to create this movie wasn’t a terrible one as The Meg managed to earn roughly $530 million at the global box office on a production budget between $130–178 million. The sequel was made on a budget of $129 million and only time will tell if it’s a flop or a hit.

Meg 2: The Trench will hit the theatres on 4th August 2023.
