In the forthcoming fourth season of The Witcher, fans will witness Liam Hemsworth, known for his role in The Hunger Games, stepping into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, previously portrayed by Henry Cavill. While some fans expressed dissatisfaction with the news, many others are optimistic that this change could mark a new beginning for the Netflix series, which has seen both successes and setbacks.
According to Redanian Intelligence, exciting details have emerged about the upcoming season of The Witcher, which will feature a new lead. Allegedly, the acclaimed actor Sharlto Copley, known for his role in Russian Doll, is said to have joined the fantasy franchise. Fans can look forward to intriguing developments as the series takes an exciting new direction.
The Witcher To Witness A New Formidable Villain
Although not entirely confirmed, the site remains steadfast in its belief that Sharlto Copley will likely assume the role of Leo Bonhart, a formidable antagonist from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series. However, it is rumored that Copley will first make his appearance in the upcoming spin-off series, The Rats.
The character of Bonhart is intensely fixated on witchers, going to the extent of collecting the medallions of those he has slain. It is anticipated that his focus in the show will center around Dolph Lundgren’s Brehen, a renegade witcher, effectively introducing the villain in The Rats before he transitions into the main series.
Following The Witcher: Blood Origin’s lackluster reception in December, there are now elevated hopes for this new spin-off to surpass expectations and make a significant impact. As per its logline, The Rats follows “Six teenage thieves [who]must rely on their criminal skills as they plan the biggest heist of their careers against the most dangerous crime ring in the kingdom.“
According to the site, it is highly probable that the criminal organization is linked to Bonhart’s cousin, Dominik Bombastus Houvenaghel, as both these characters have already been alluded to during The Witcher season 3.
The Witcher Saw A Huge Drop In Viewership
Last year, Henry Cavill revealed his departure from the beloved Netflix series, The Witcher. He also mentioned that the third season would mark his final portrayal of Geralt of Rivia. While the exact reason behind his decision remains undisclosed, fans expressed their disappointment, evident in the ratings and viewership of Season 3.
The debut of The Witcher Season 3’s first volume experienced a 15% drop compared to the Season 2 premiere. Furthermore, the viewership for the initial five episodes indicates that the series is struggling to maintain its audience’s interest until the conclusion.
Based on a report by Samba TV, the viewership for the first episode of Season 3 amounted to 1.1 million viewers, but by the conclusion of Volume 1, it decreased to 505,000 viewers. This indicates a significant loss of nearly 600,000 viewers over the initial five episodes of Season 3. This contrasts with the trends observed in the past two seasons of the show.
The Witcher is available for streaming on Netflix.
