Pierce Brosnan wasn’t happy with the way the makers of the James Bond series delivered the bad news to him. The Dante’s Peak actor was informed on a phone call that he will not be playing the character of James Bond anymore. During an interview, the 70-year-old actor talked about how he felt when he was informed that he was fired from the Bond series. The actor said,

“I was in the Bahamas, working on a movie called After the Sunset and my agents called me up and said, ‘Negotiations have stopped. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson are not quite sure what they want to do. They’ll call you next Thursday.”

He further added,

“I sat in Richard Harris’s house in the Bahamas, and Barbara and Michael were on the line —‘We’re so sorry.’ She was crying, Michael was stoic and he said, ‘You were a great James Bond. Thank you very much,’ and I said, ‘Thank you very much. Goodbye.’ That was it. I was utterly shocked and just kicked to the curb with the way it went down.”

Reportedly, the reason why the producers decided not to cast Brosnan for future Bond movies was that he was charging too much money to play the character.

After Brosnan’s exit from the franchise, Daniel Craig replaced him as James Bond. Craig’s first movie in the spy film series was Casino Royale, which was released on 16 November 2006. During an interview, the 55-year-old actor received plaudits from the former James Bond Brosnan. When the No Escape actor was asked about Craig, he said,

“I didn’t seek advice from any man before me, and I don’t give any advice to any man after me. He’ll find his own way. He’ll find his own way. He’s a wonderful actor. I wish him all the happiness and success.”
