Following the cancellation of the sequel to Wonder Woman 1984, fans have been asking James Gunn about his plans regarding the character in the new DCU. Considering that there hasn’t been any major update regarding the character in their announcement for the initial projects in DCU’s first chapter, instead of Paradise Lost, which will focus on the history of Amazonians in DCU.
However, it seems that James Gunn is patiently working on setting up DCU’s Wonder Woman and instead of live-action, we might first witness the character in the medium of animation.
James Gunn revealed his plan regarding Wonder Woman’s future in DCU
Following the initial roadmap for DCU’s first chapter, fans have been wondering about the future of Wonder Woman in the new DCU, considering there hasn’t been any update regarding her role in DCU. But James Gunn previously expressed that they have been discussing Wonder Woman’s possible inclusion in the DC’s animation.
However, recently after being asked whether the character is getting her animated series in the new DCU, James Gunn expressed that he has been working on this matter for a long while. He shared that ever since his arrival in the helms of the DC universe, The Suicide Squad director is trying to get an animated series, involving Wonder Woman at its forefront, running.
However, his recent comments regarding the character’s future might diminish Gal Gadot’s chance of reprising the role of Diana Prince in the new DCU.
Gal Gadot’s future as Wonder Woman remains uncertain
With the new DCU set to include its own version of Batman and Superman, fans have been wondering whether Wonder Woman will be getting the same treatment or not. Even though Gal Gadot reprised her iconic role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, following its poor performance at the box office, even Zachary Levi’s future in the DCU looks uncertain.
Considering James Gunn’s previous comments about the future of the character in the DC universe, where he expressed that they’re looking for possible voice actors, who can play the character in real life. It does seem that Gunn is moving forward from the original Trinity and Gadot’s future as Wonder Woman might not be much bright at the moment. James Gunn stated,
“In animation, we’re trying to cast the voices of the actors we want to play them in real life.”
Although there hasn’t been any official confirmation about the casting of the new DCU heroes. Following James Gunn’s comments regarding the new DCU, we might soon get an official confirmation about Wonder Woman’s future in the new DC universe.
