The much-anticipated movie Blue Beetle will land in cinemas on the 18th of August, but it seems like the movie was supposed to play the role of a villain spin-off. Yes, instead of Jaime Reyes, it was originally Bane who the director pitched.
Before directing Blue Beetle, filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto had a different pitch for Warner Bros. and DC. He originally wanted to direct a Latino DC supervillain origin movie based on one of Batman’s antagonists and explore the origins of Bane. However, Warner Bros. had different plans, resulting in the first Latino DC superhero instead.
Blue Beetle Director Angel Manuel Soto Pitched Bane Before Jaime Reyes
Warner pitched Soto on Blue Beetle, a movie featuring a young Hispanic teen which is defined by the relationship between its lead and his non-powered supporting cast. In reality, Soto wanted to do a movie on Bane. Here’s what he wished for:
“I wanted to pitch ideas, and one of them was the Bane origin story,” Soto told Den of Geek. “I always thought that there was something interesting in exploring his reality and how a character like that comes to be.” But he quickly found out that “the conversation was not about that.”
On the 18th of August, Blue Beetle will revive our enjoyment of superhero movies, particularly DC. The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, stars Xolo Maridueña in the title role and his second self, Jaime Reyes.
James Gunn has confirmed that Blue Beetle is the first DCU character in the new universe. Some characters repeated from the old DCEU will get through this reboot, while others will change with the new narrative. Though many of the DC Universe’s recent projects have a questionable future, this doesn’t apply to Blue Beetle because Soto said its story is expanding. They will have more of Jaime Reyes in the future.
Will Warner Bros. Ever Consider Making a Solo Movie on Bane?
Born inside the prison known as Pena Dura on the fictional Caribbean island of Santa Prisca, Bane was convicted to serve time for his absent father’s crimes since his birth. By training his mind and body inside the prison, Bane soon becomes the unchallenged king of Pena Dura.
Do you remember Bane’s dialogue, played by Tom Hardy, in The Dark Knight Rises?
“Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but BLINDING!”
Through this, Bane wanted to say that he was born evil and eventually grew molding in it. That’s the reason the goodness in the world didn’t affect him.
Soto’s exploration of Bane would have been a great idea because it would have a unique angle consisting of pure action and comedic edge. No doubt, there are chances that WB will consider a movie on Bane later in the future.
DC is exploring more of its heroes, so a solo movie about Bane seems like a good idea. However, whether WB will think about making a solo movie on Bane is not yet claimed. Considering his popularity in the Batman trilogy, he will definitely be a household name.
