Warner Bros’ DC property can’t seem to find a straight path ever since the franchise started tumbling down with Joss Whedon replacing Zack Snyder to direct 2017’s Justice League. It has all come downhill after that.
2018’s Aquaman hitting $1 Billion at the box office instilled some hope in the hearts of fans, but even the Samoan-American merman was not capable enough to save the DC extended universe which was in dire need of a reset.
James Gunn took the reigns from Walter Hamada who had been trying to manage the miserable health of the projects. Now it looks like the former is here to call even more bizarre shots.
There were no updates lately on the new caped crusader in Gunn’s slate of DCU films, but rumors are now suggesting that he may have something in his closet.
James Gunn Is Rumored To Bring An Asian Batman?
Superman: Legacy kickstarting James Gunn’s first phase – Gods and Monsters is the most anticipated film set to hit the theaters in 2025 along with a couple of other projects. News broke around a month ago that Andy Muschietti has been signed on to direct The Brave and the Bold, as he had impressed the current leadership with his take on The Flash.
Take this with a grain of salt, but rumor has it that James Gunn could mess with the project in the most unexpected of ways by race-swapping the caped crusader. According to the Home of DCU on Twitter, DC is rumored to be developing a Korean Huntress film. The character, in the comics, is Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle’s daughter Helena Wayne. Could that mean we’re getting an Asian Dark Knight? We’ve already had an animated Batman Ninja in 2018.
What Happens To The Brave and the Bold?
DC’s animated Son of Batman (2014) gave us a glimpse of how the dynamics between Bruce Wayne with his son Damian Wayne turned out to be. He is a formidable fighter trained by the League of Assassins who later becomes the new Robin.
Barry Allen messed up the entire timeline toward the end of The Flash and that could be a door for James Gunn to introduce an Asian Batman, which could disrupt the already existing storyline.
George Clooney showing up as Bruce Wayne instead of Ben Affleck was expected, but what exactly happened with his character remains to be a mystery.
We can only hold our breaths for so long until James Gunn approves or debunks this rumor on Twitter, which he always does. If Korean Huntress actually happens, initial impressions suggest that it may very well be set in the multiverse.
Xolo Maridueña will take his first flight on August 18 in his cutting-edge Blue Beetle avatar.
