Kit Harington seems to be having a rather upsetting streak of bad luck.
The English actor, who gained recognition for portraying the stoic swordsman in HBO’s globally renowned fantasy series, might not be getting his spin-off show after all. After Game of Thrones wrapped up in 2019, fans were thrilled to know that they’d be getting a Jon Snow series starring Harington. But they might have to hold their breath for the show to see the light of day.

The Future of Kit Harington’s Jon Snow Spinoff is Precarious
Last year it was reported that the live-action spinoff series which would witness Kit Harington reprise the fan-favorite role of Jon Snow was in early development. Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin even announced SNOW as the working title for the upcoming project. But the future of the show seems to be teetering on the edge of uncertainty if the latest updates about Harington’s spinoff are anything to go by.
Francesca Orsi, who serves as the head of HBO’s drama department, recently divulged that Harington’s Jon Snow series is encountering quite a lot of hindrances. To put it simply, they’re not sure if the project has the potential to materialize into a full-fledged show since they don’t even have it greenlit yet.
“We’re just working deeply with the writers to get it in shape for potential greenlight,” the network’s executive told Deadline. “But at this point, no, no determination on whether it can go all the way.”
Up until now, the Jon Snow series, that Harington, 36, was set to lead as well as executive produce, was believed to be a sort of sequel to the original blockbuster fantasy/adventure show. Not much is known of it besides the fact that it would take place after the events of Game of Thrones. But perhaps, the spinoff might not happen after all. And while that’s disheartening news for fans, it’s especially upsetting for the Pompeii star who met a similar fate of unpredictability in the MCU as well.
Kit Harington’s Marvel Fiasco After Eternals
Fans saw Harington make his MCU debut as Dave Whitman, aka, Black Knight in 2021’s Eternals, albeit he had minimal screentime in the movie, appearing only in the post-credit scenes.
As it turns out, even the actor himself isn’t aware of whether he’d get the chance to reprise the role in future projects anytime soon. While he held strong hopes of returning to the franchise at some point, the two-time Emmy nominee had no idea just when that would be. “I have no idea. I genuinely don’t,” Harington said on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. “I’m waiting for a call on it at some point.”
Even recent reports about Mahersahal Ali’s Blade Reboot, which was slated to feature Harington’s Black Knight, delivered dismaying news about the same. Sources claim that the latter’s involvement in the much-anticipated MCU film has been scrapped from the retooled script, which means Harington would probably be a no-show in the 2024 reboot.
Yikes, talk about rotten luck.
