Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse offered fans an epic ride into the multiverse of web-slingers. Not only does it offer a gripping journey across the Spider-Verse, but the movie is also centered around the love story of Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy.
However, fans were quick to notice a special connection between Spider-Punk and Gwen Stacy. And now Daniel Kaluuya, the voiceover of Spider-Punk, has broken the silence over this special connection between the two web-slingers.
Daniel Kaluuya Speaks Up About Hobie Brown And Gwen Stacy’s Relationship
Spider-Punk, Kaluuya’s character, was initially thought to be a threat to Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy’s relationship. Instead of trying to take away Gwen, Brown became the ultimate hero who helps both Gwen and Miles despite having an untrusting nature.
Speaking about their special relationship, Daniel Kaluuya said,
“Gwen and Hobie, I think something was happening. She left a lot of stuff at his house. They’re part of this band, and one of the reasons why Hobie was there was to have Gwen’s back…… I think they have a genuine friendship, but how deep that goes is between Gwen and Hobie.”
When asked about why Hobie Brown chose to stick together with the Spider Society, Kaluuya revealed,
“It was to have Gwen’s back. At the end of the film, he gives a gesture to Gwen again. He just has her back, you know what I mean? Someone’s gotta watch somebody, and he wants to hide how much he cares. He watches over people that are coming from the same type of place that he feels he comes from. So, him being in the Spider Society is a lot of that.”
It seems unlikely that Stacy and Brown’s relationship would take a romantic turn in the future, but Daniel Kaluuya is sure that Spider-Punk does care deeply about his friend.

Daniel Kaluuya On Why Spider-Punk Chose To Help Miles Morales
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse showed a potential love triangle between Hobie Brown, Gwen Stacy, and Miles Morales. However, it turned out that only Hobbie Brown or Spider-Punk had Miles Morale’s best interests at heart throughout the movie.
Daniel Kaluuya, voiceover for Spider-Punk, spoke up about the two web-crawlers relationships and why Spider-Punk chose to help out Miles Morales,
“He saw that Miles does what’s right no matter what, especially in that [Mumbattan] sequence. Hobie saw that it pissed people off, and he kind of liked that…….Hobie saw that rebellious spirit, he identified with him and he wanted to support and help him. He looked at him and thought, “This kid is alright,” after he probably heard certain things about him. So Hobie knew that Miles would unravel the system or the status quo within the Spider Society.”
With Spider-Verse all set to get a threequel, it would be fascinating to see how the dynamics play out between Miles Morales and Hobie Brown, and whether Gwen Stacy and Hobie Brown’s relationship would grow any further.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is in theatres now.
