Leonardo DiCaprio became the world’s biggest actor when he starred as Jack Dawson in the $2.24 billion grossing film Titanic. Fans still swoon over his portrayal and he is still known all over the world as ‘Jack’ despite having done multiple successful movies.
While he did express having a hard time navigating his newfound fame at that time, there is something else he regrets. One of his regrets regarding his blockbuster film is him choosing to do Titanic over starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s $43 million movie.
Leonardo DiCaprio Regrets Starring In Titanic
Leonardo DiCaprio hit the jackpot when he chose to star in James Cameron‘s disaster-inspired movie Titanic. An extremely successful film, it is still regarded as one of the most watched and loved films of all time. Just as established Cameron’s stature as a highly successful director and storyteller, it brought its lead stars to the pedestal of the world.
Despite his immense fame, DiCaprio once expressed his regret in choosing Titanic over Paul Thomas Anderson‘s film Boogie Nights. Although he rejected the film over Anderson being an inexperienced filmmaker, the Revenant star wishes he could have the film.
“Boogie Nights is a movie I loved and I wish I would’ve done.”
While the film only grossed about $43 million worldwide, DiCaprio doesn’t seem to care about its box-office performance. The role of the p*rn star Dirk Diggler eventually went to Mark Wahlberg, providing him a very well-earned breakthrough in the film industry.
Even though DiCaprio regrets starring in Titanic over Boogie Nights, he claimed that it doesn’t mean that he would let his beloved $2 billion grossing film go if had the option to choose again.
Leonardo DiCaprio Would Never Reject Titanic Over Boogie Nights
Leonardo DiCaprio regrets over not starring in Boogie Nights, and one can’t help but wonder if he would reject Titanic if he had the chance to choose again. But the star revealed that he would have never chosen to let go of his disaster movie but instead wishes he could have done them both.
“I’m not saying I would have. But it would have been a different direction, career wise. I think they’re both great and wish I could have done them both … The truth is, if I’d not done Titanic, I wouldn’t be able to do the types of movies or have the career I have now, for sure. But it would have been interesting to see if I had gone the other way.”
It surely must have been interesting to see DiCaprio as a p*rn star, but fans are grateful enough that he chose to star in Titanic over a $43 million-grossing movie.
