We all grow up watching and listening to stories about superheroes who fly high into the sky, shoot the bad guys with their laser eyes, and eventually, save the world. Of course, none of that happens in real life but that does not mean heroes don’t exist. Take a look at Jamie Foxx for example!
Jamie Foxx is a renowned actor who has won many accolades for his performances, including an Oscar and a Golden Globe. After playing numerous characters in his films, he got an opportunity to play a hero in real life and he didn’t let it pass. Back in 2016, Jamie Foxx went out of his way to help a stranger out of a burning truck after he got into a horrific accident.
Jamie Foxx Saves a Life
According to ABC News, Brett Kyle’s truck collided with a ditch, flipped, and rolled over and over again before bursting into flames. Safety for Citizens shared photos of the aftermath of the accident, which looks like something out of an action movie.
The police reported how two heroic strangers, with no regard for their own safety, spared no time before rushing to help the driver. One half of this brave duo was an off-duty paramedic and the other half was none other than Jamie Foxx.
“Two witnesses that were near the collision scene ran to the burning, overturned truck in an attempt to free the driver. One of the witnesses retrieved a rescue tool from his vehicle allowing the two citizens to break the window, cut the seat belt, and extricate the driver.”
After struggling against time, Foxx and the paramedic were able to finally free the driver with the help of a large pair of scissors. This unfortunate event was no lesser than what we see in movies as according to reports, the truck was engulfed in flames mere moments after they rescued the driver. As per the police who were available on site, Kyle was driving under the influence of alcohol. Thankfully, he survived but sustained major injuries.
Jamie Foxx Doesn’t Believe He’s a Hero
After meeting the driver’s father, Brad Kyle, Foxx gave an account of everything that happened from his own perspective. He stated that as soon as he heard the crash from his home, he hurried to call 911 and reach the site. Foxx recalled that while struggling to rescue the driver he was telling him,
“You’ve got to help me get you out because I don’t want to have to leave you. You’ve got angels around you.”
Despite a heroic stunt, Foxx refuses to be acknowledged as a hero as he stated, “I don’t look at it as heroic. I just look at it like, you know, you just had to do something. And it all just worked out.”
The driver’s father, who was also in the interview, tried to hold his tears back as he said Foxx didn’t “have to do a thing,” but he went out of his way anyway to save the man. Foxx posted a photo of him hugging the father who could be seen crying.
Foxx, who is also a father to two children, wrote,
“Met the father of the young man from last night today. This is all that matters. That a man, a son, a brother’s life was spared last night. God had his arms wrapped around all of us…No heroes…Just happy fathers.”
Apart from this, Foxx never returned to toot his own horn. He did not talk about the accident, neither on social media nor in interviews. This just goes on to say that the Django Unchained actor didn’t do it for the medals, he simply did it for the sake of humanity.
