Steven Seagal is undoubtedly one of the most detested Hollywood celebrities due to his bizarre behavior towards co-stars and his mistreatment of women. The actor rose to stardom around the 80s, but his fame declined in the late 90s after his movie projects did not live up to the hype.
In the following years, his career was mired in controversies: from his suspicious friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin to a shady cryptocurrency business. A lot of celebrities also shared their not-so-good experience working with the actor.
DMX Hated Working With Steven Seagal In Their Movie ‘Exit Wounds’
Steven Seagal starred in the 2001 action movie Exit Wounds opposite the late rapper DMX. The latter revealed he had nothing good to say about his co-star due to his unpleasant behavior (via Rap Dirt):
“Steven Seagal is a f***. He’s a f**king sh*thead. With spray-on hair. He talked like he was an old slave master. ‘Hey, wassup? We’s gonna have us a barbecue.’ I was just like, ‘Man, who the f*** do you think you’re talking to? My name ain’t Sambo, n****. Get the f*** out of here with that bulls***.’”
From those expletives alone, fans could see how much DMX utterly despised Seagal. The actor was reportedly racist towards the rapper. Even his attempt at being friendly seemed a little off and disrespectful:
“Or he’d pull some fake attempting to be friendly f***. He’d see my wife and be like, ‘Hey, little mama.’ We laughed about it. Just like, ‘This guy’s a f***er.’ He’s a a**hole.”
Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, Exit Wounds starred Steven Seagal as Detroit police detective Orin Boyd while DMX portrayed powerful and wicked crime lord Latrell Walker. Despite their feud, Seagal and DMX found themselves working again in the 2019 action crime film, Beyond the Law.
DMX Made Sure He Won’t Get His Ass Kicked Again
In 2002, DMX told the public that Steven Seagal beat him in Exit Wounds. The rapper detailed his grueling experience with the actor (via MTV News):
“[Steven Seagal] was kind of finishing me, but it’s not even like that [this time]. I be f**king n***as up and everything in this movie. Everybody else gets their ass kicked.”
DMX spoke of his new movie, Cradle 2 the Grave, where he promised nobody will beat him down again. In his statement, there was still rage toward Seagal:
“Quick fight. He hit me a couple, I hit him a couple of times. You ain’t gonna be whoopin’ my ass now. It ain’t that serious.”
The late rapper asserted that he did a better job in this movie than when he appeared in Exit Wounds:
“I personally think I did a lot better in the fight scenes. I got more into it. When sh*t is given to you mad easily, you’re like, ‘F**k it, I got it easy. I’m’a just do whatever these n***as see me doing.’ I realized the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.”
DMX passed away in 2021 due to a cocaine-induced heart attack which prevented blood circulation to his brain.
