8 Predictions/Wishlist of What Will be Shown at PlayStation Showcase – Will it be Incredible or Terrible?

With news breaking yesterday that PlayStation will be kicking off the Summer Game Fest with their own signature PlayStation Showcase, fans around the world have been theorising exactly what we’ll see. Supposed insiders have given hints, but we’re here to discuss our own predictions, and frankly our own wishlist as to what we want. How likely some of these are is disputable, but we live in hope.

Metal Gear Solid Remake has long been rumoured, and year after year we’re left disappointed after it isn’t announced. However, this time round we’ve been teased by Solid Snake voice actor and vocalist Donna Burke, sharing a picture of herself in a recording studio holding a Snake Eater poster, possibly indicating some sort of work on what is widely regarded as the best in the series, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Mortal Kombat 12/1

Playstation showcase

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has been having great fun in recent months over on Twitter, teasing fans of both the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises as to which sequel he’ll be announcing next. In recent days it’s looking increasingly likely that the answer is Mortal Kombat 12, which in actual fact may well be titled Mortal Kombat 1, working as a reset of the long and convoluted history of the game franchise. This of course works due to the ending of Mortal Kombat 11, with Liu Kang resetting the timeline and creating a fresh era without the likes of Shang Tsung. Either way, bring me more fatalities.

Ghost of Tsushima 2

One of the standout games of the PS4 generation for many reasons, fans have been largely left waiting for any news about a sequel. A film helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski based upon the first game has been officially confirmed as being in development, but besides a few Sucker Punch job listings indicating development on the sequel, nothing has been officially confirmed. With the success of the first though, it seems a full-gone conclusion.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Playstation showcase

With the marketing of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 beginning to ramp up, it seems obvious that we’ll be getting a significant chunk of news next week at the Playstation Showcase. A release date and new trailer should be a given, especially considering there has been a complete dearth of news since the last teaser trailer back in 2021. Will it be a story trailer? Gameplay? Will it confirm the long-standing rumour of interchangeable and/or co-op playable Spider-Men of Miles and Peter?

Marvel’s Wolverine

Playstation showcase

The biggest surprise at the time when announced, Insomniac needed to give their digital security teams a raise because in a time where projects are leaked long before they’re officially announced, not one person knew or had reported on this and it paid off in a big way, with Insomniac dominating the gaming water-cooler at the time with this and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. With a 2024 release looking likely, this would be a good time to release some more information about the game. We’re not expecting a gameplay trailer, but confirmation or who is voicing Wolverine and maybe a longer cinematic trailer? Is that too much to ask?

Silent Hill 2 Remake

Playstation showcase

Another day, another remake of a classic game, and one that horror fans will be thankful for. Whilst we’re well into the Resident Evil library of games being updated and remade/remastered for current audiences, this’ll be our first foray into the other classic horror franchise, on modern consoles. According to the CEO of Bloober Team – the developer behind the remake on behalf of Konami – Piotr Babieno, the game is “technically ready”, which is exciting news for the impatient fans amongst us.

Bloodborne Remaster/2

Playstation showcase

The gothic, decrepit FromSoftware game wormed it’s way into every Souls-like fan, with its disease ridden portrayal of a fictional Victorian-esque town Yharnam becoming a huge hit and one that has fans requesting a remaster or sequel. Unfortunately that has fallen on deaf ears these last few years, but with every PlayStation Showcase, E3 or other such presentations, the rumour persists that now may be the time. As someone who is firmly in the camp of ‘give me a remaster and a sequel’, I’m hoping it really is the time.

PlayStation Handheld

Playstation showcase

What would be better to end the show on than this? In a time where Xbox and Microsoft are struggling in every avenue, PlayStation seem to be going from strength to strength, with their exclusives becoming hit after hit and their console far outselling their competitor. Whilst not officially confirmed, rumours and leaks indicate Sony are almost ready to reveal their next step in the PlayStation roadmap. Relying on the remote play aspect of the PS5, the handheld will sport a larger screen and be far more powerful than our mobiles and tablets we currently use for remote play, at least with gaming in mind.

What of the above do you think is likely? What other games would you want to be announced or shown at the PlayStation Showcase?
