Like most months of the year, August will see the launch of video games both big and small, AAA games and indie games. July was an unusually slow month, but August puts the gaming world back in business ahead of the fall season which will see numerous major games launch.

This month’s pickings include but aren’t limited to, a long-awaited RPG, a new game by the makers of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, and much more. Please note that this list doesn’t include all the games released in August, just some of them in no particular order. So without further ado, let’s get right into it:

1. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon

The latest release by famed developer FromSoftware, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is a mech-based game featuring vehicular combat. Promising to employ FromSoftware’s knowledge from their experience with Soulslike games, players control their mech (robot) and engage in battle with other mechs. Taking place in large, open stages, the game will also feature fast-paced combat in all directions owing to the high maneuverability of the mechs. The game releases on 25th August on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

2. Atlas Fallen

An action RPG set in a unique fantasy world, Atlas Fallen allows a fully customizable playstyle for each player. The campaign of the game can be played solo or with a friend through co–op, whichever players prefer. Hunting legendary creatures and monsters, unlocking new abilities, and exploring a world filled with secrets – this game has it all. The game released on 10th August PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S

3. Baldur’s Gate 3

The most awaited and the biggest game on this list, Baldur’s Gate 3 launched to critical acclaim from both critics and fans. Based on the popular board game Dungeons and Dragons, it is a party-based RPG in a massive, varied world that is full of things to do. Featuring extraordinary player freedom, this game offers players the chance to be a hero…or a villain. The game released on 3rd August on PC, and will release on PS5 on 6th September.

4. Immortals of Aveum

A single-player, first-person magic shooter, Immortals of Aveum follows Jak who joins an elite order of battlemages to save the world. Promising to defy first-person shooter conventions, the game features fast and fluid combat where players cast powerful spells. The combat is customizable, allowing players to unlock and upgrade various spells across three forces of magic as they see fit. The game releases on 22nd August on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

5. Sea of Stars

Last but definitely not least on this list, Sea of Stars is a turn-based retro-inspired party-based RPG. Utilizing gorgeous pixel graphics, the game aims to strike the right balance between modernizing the classic RPG in several crucial ways while still feeling familiar and nostalgic. It also promises that there will be no grinding, something that has dragged down several RPGs over the years. The game releases on 29th August on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
