Oppenheimer feels like a culmination of everything Christopher Nolan mastered throughout his illustrious career, and it’s hard to not get overwhelmed by witnessing the film on the big screen. Despite being a 3-hour drama, it runs at a pretty quick pace, never losing its footing throughout its runtime, but getting a grab at everything the movie throws at us can be pretty hard to catch in its first viewing.
But apart from being a technical marvel, which one expects from a Nolan-led film, every actor involved brings their A-game to the movie. However, Cillian Murphy is easily the standout performer among them all, becoming a favorite for next year’s Oscar for Best Actor. But following Murphy’s brilliance, fans might’ve missed out on several other A-listers, including these 5 prominent names.
Five Prominent Actors in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer With Substantially Lesser Screentime
Rami Malek
Known for starring in the critically acclaimed Mr. Robot and Bohemian Rhapsody, Oscar-winner Rami Malek makes a short but memorable appearance in the Christopher Nolan-led film. Like most of his roles, Malek delivers an impeccable performance in his brief scenes in Oppenheimer. Despite having less than 10 minutes of screentime, the actor, who plays David Hill, plays an important part in deciding Robert Downey Jr’s Strauss’ fate in the movie.
Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman is no new to playing historical leaders during the WWII period and starring in Christopher Nolan-led films. Oppenheimer is yet another marvelous addition to his illustrious resume, where he plays the 33rd US President Harry S. Truman. Although he only shares one scene with Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer, it’s enough for the legendary actor to leave a lasting impact.
Casey Affleck
Like Gary Oldman’s Truman, Oscar-winner Casey Affleck succeeds in leaving a lasting impact on the audience, following his portrayal of Boris Pash in Oppenheimer. The actor manages to crawl under your screen through his portrayal of the anti-communist, then-military intelligence officer, cementing himself as the scariest person in the movie. The actor has also previously worked with Nolan back in his highly acclaimed film, Interstellar, playing the role of Tom.
Kenneth Branagh
Academy Award winner filmmaker and director, known for crafting gems like Hamlet, Kenneth Branagh is too familiar with working alongside Christopher Nolan. Starring in films, including Tenet and Dunkirk, the actor took the job of playing Scientist Niels Bohr in Oppenheimer, who eventually works under Oppenheimer in the Manhattan Project.
Devon Bostick
Famous for starring in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, Devon Bostick also appears for a brief period in the Nolan-led film, playing scientist Seth Neddermeyer. But despite having a limited presence like other Industry giants, the actor does shine in a memorable scene in the film, which takes place after the bombing.
These are some handful names who served an important purpose in the film despite having a substantially lesser presence in the movie. And following the movie’s brilliance, it definitely deserves multiple viewings from fans.
