From the first Captain America movie to Avengers: Endgame where his character got the much-needed closure, Chris Evans played Steve Rogers / Captain America in 7 MCU movies. The Fantastic Four actor even admitted that from 2011 to 2019, he did not have a single year without donning the Captain America suit.
Throughout the years, fans will also remember Evans for his charming sense of humor, very different from his on-screen character, during promotional events for the movies. But the Knives Out actor revealed that when it comes to red carpets and press meetings, his social anxiety kicks in.
Chris Evans Was Not A Fan Of Promoting His Marvel Movies
Chris Evans loved wearing the suit and shield for years, however, he hated the part of the job where he had to appear in promotional events. The Before We Go, actor, was irritated by the irrelevant questions posed by some people during such events. Comparing red carpet events to walking on hot coals, Evans disclosed in an interview with Rolling Stone:
“A red carpet lasts, what, 30 minutes tops? But that to me is like 30 minutes of walking on hot coals.”
The Avengers actor further went on to add that he particularly disliked premieres where the press bombarded him with questions. Evans even drew parallels between what his character does and these press events. The Captain America: Civil War actor shared:
“It’s the volume of it: You’re in the center of this thing. You can fight a whole army if they line up one at a time. But if they surround you, you’re f**ked.”
It appears Chris Evans is a lot like Captain America, as Steve Rogers also hated all the gimmicks he had to do for a nationwide tour that actually promoted war bonds in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Chris Evans Admitted The Press Events Made Him Nervous
Chris Evans revealed that he sometimes had to pretend to care about the stupid questions. The Snowpiercer actor shared that he became uncomfortable when he did not relate to the questions posed by the press. The socially anxious Evans felt like he was playing some game he wasn’t supposed to play.
However, the Ghosted actor loved his profession and has tried different roles in his career. Evans made his directorial debut with the 2014 movie Before We Go. Post Avengers, Evans delved into a supervillain role in the Russo brothers’ movie The Gray Man. The Losers actor also entered Broadway acting, which made him very comfortable considering there were no press junkets. Evans remarked, “You do your work and you get to go home.”
In the interview, the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World actor also expressed his interest in starting a personal life. Audiences can enjoy all of Chris Evans’ Captain America outings by streaming them on Disney.
