Tom Cruise is known to give some of the biggest hits in Hollywood. However, despite the stardom and the following he has gained over the years, there are movies that were unable to live up to the standard set by the Hollywood star. English actress Andrea Riseborough who worked with him in the 2013 film Oblivion, believes that the post-apocalyptic action film is also among them. It grossed $286 million at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics.
Riseborough stars alongside the Mission Impossible actor as his communication partner, Victoria Olsen. However, she did not seem to enjoy the film that much, as she called it her worst job during an interview with The Guardian.
Andrea Riseborough’s Honest Opinion About Oblivion
Based on Joseph Kosinski‘s unpublished graphic novel of the same name, Oblivion follows Jack Harper, a technician to repairs drones on a post-apocalyptic Earth, who starts questioning his mission and seeks the truth after finding a woman. Critics appreciated the film’s visuals but also mentioned that it could have been much better.
However, many also consider it one of the most underrated blockbusters starring the action star Tom Cruise. Andrea Riseborough, however, doesn’t seem to feel the same as she has described the film as bad as “shredding duck in a Chinese restaurant.”
When asked what is the worst job she has ever done, the Possessor star said, “Either shredding duck in a Chinese restaurant or Oblivion.” While she doesn’t elaborate on why she feels this way about the movie, she has shared that she felt “isolated” and “disconnected” while working on Oblivion.
Riseborough also talked about her experience starring alongside Tom Cruise in the 2020 sci-fi. And she also opened up about the pressure from the studio to look a certain way while starring in the movie.
Andrea Riseborough Enjoyed Working With Tom Cruise
In an interview with AV Club, Andrea Riseborough shared her experience working with the Hollywood star Tom Cruise. She stated that she really enjoyed working with the Jack Reacher star and shared that it was a “brilliant experience” for her.
“And I really, really enjoyed working with Tom. That was such a brilliant experience,” the Mandy actress shared. She also stated that they had so much fun working together. “We laughed so much, which was good because Vika and Jack’s relationship was rocky,” she further shared during her interview.
One of the things she was not very comfortable with was “the pressure to look a certain way.” Riseborough shared that she was unable to understand why it was such a crucial thing to people. She claimed that she was suggested to stand in a way so that her “as* looks good.” And these were some of the things that added to her no so enjoyable experience working on the film.
Oblivion is available on Peacock TV.
