The future of the Star Wars franchise might belong to the past as a new rumor is spreading online that the next Star Wars movie will be set around 400 years before the Skywalker saga, taking place during the High Republic era.
This era (where the Republic was still safe and protected by the Jedi Order) has been left out of the cinematic universe so far. The connective tissue that will be Yoda as he would be a Jedi Knight around this period.
The fans would also be introduced, for the first time on the big screen, to Darth Bane, a Dark Lord of the Sith who survived the destruction of his people during the Jedi-Sith war. Bane then created the Rule of Two, stating that there could only be two Sith Lords at the same time: the Master and the Apprentice.
A film set in this time period would have a lot of potentials, script-wise and character-wise, but nothing has been confirmed nor communicated by Lucasfilm yet. If the rumors are true, this would not be a trilogy like what we’ve known so far with the Skywalker saga, but rather a series of films all linked together, taking place during the High Republic. The next Star Wars movie is announced for December 2022 and should be introduced later this month.
Another clue might have been dropped in one of the latest Marvel Comic, Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren (featuring a young Ben Solo, fan’s favorite Luke Skywalker and Lor San Tekka). The three characters are on a journey in the Outer Rim to find old Jedi relics.
At some point in the comic book, Lor San Tekka said, “I think after all my wanderings, I can recognize the description of a Jedi outpost when I hear it, Luke.”

The latter replied, “didn’t realize the Jedi ever had an official presence so far from the core”. Tekka continued, “It’s probably the High Republic era. It was a time of greatly expanded Jedi activity throughout the galaxy”.
So, has the High Republic been teased on purpose?
