Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may not be the studio’s top priority at the moment, but it seems like the film’s production has already received a working title.
This comes via a report from Production Weekly revealing that the third Guardians film has been listed under the working title “Hot Christmas”.
Unfortunately, unlike many working titles, Hot Christmas has no reference to anything. But who knows, maybe the final film of the trilogy takes place around the holidays. Like seriously, how great would be a Guardians Christmas film?
The film was initially set to begin its production in a few months, but that won’t happen anytime soon, now that the film is without a director. James Gunn was earlier slated to helm the project but was fired by Disney after a series of inappropriate tweets surfaced on the internet. Disney has been firm on their decision ever since.
Sean Gunn, brother of James and a star in the Guardians franchise recently revealed that Marvel will be using the script written by James Gunn for the film.
“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with Guardians 3,” Gunn said. “I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”
He went on to add that he was contacted by Disney, and the studio still intends to work on the film, they’re just not sure when.
“Obviously, I think it’s a tricky proposition for them to find another director to step in — and also the scheduling of a lot of other actors who are incredibly busy can’t be easy,” Gunn said. “But I know that they plan on making the movie. I had not been contacted at all for a while, but I was recently contacted by Marvel saying, ‘Yeah, we do plan to make this movie. We’re just not sure when yet.'”
