Oscar winner and Goop founder, Gwyneth Paltrow is embroiled in a high-profile court battle following a hit-and-run ski accident at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort in 2016. Terry Sanderson, the man suing Paltrow, alleges the actress ran into him on the slopes, severely injured him, and left him lying there.
Paltrow and her legal team are seeking stringent conditions be put in place before the actress appears in court for the trial, which has attracted international interest. Paltrow said the trial would become a media circus since it has garnered worldwide attention.
Gwyneth Paltrow Makes Some Requests
RadarOnline acquired documents that reveal that Paltrow and her legal team requested stringent measures to be taken in advance of the actress’ court appearance. The actress’ motion introduced Gwyneth Paltrow as a “famous actor”
“Defendant is a famous actress and well-known celebrity, including receiving an Academy Award for Best Actress.”

Paltrow asked the judge to restrict the media’s access to the trial, saying that there would be too many reporters and that she wanted to protect the children in the courtroom, “the jurors, and the witnesses.”
“…that the press be limited as to what portions of trial it may be present for to preserve the privacy and dignity of the parties, jurors and witnesses, which will include [Paltrow’s] children.”
The actress may have tried to keep the press away. However, the trial has piqued the public’s interest, and now many are asking what happened.
The Allegations and the Evidence
Terry Sanderson says that Paltrow skied into him, acted carelessly, and caused serious injuries, including irreversible brain damage. In addition, he claims that the actress left him for dead when he was lying injured on the ground, and she did not come to his aid. Sanderson wants $300 thousand to cover his medical expenses and pain and suffering.
However, Gwyneth Paltrow claims Sanderson was at fault and countersued $1 and legal expenses, stating that she was not at fault. She testified that a resort instructor corroborated her story. The pre-trial arguments of the parties focused on whether to present certain evidence to the jury.
Terry Sanderson argued that his erectile dysfunction and other medical issues were irrelevant to the lawsuit. He requested that the court not permit Paltrow to show his medical record. While on the witness stand, Paltrow insisted that the jury didn’t need to see her filmed deposition since they could hear her words.
Paltrow used a ski instructor who was there during the accident to back up her statements in court. According to the instructor’s testimony, Sanderson’s reckless skiing was to blame for the accident. The attorneys for Sanderson countered that the instructor had not seen the crash and could not testify to its details.
Proceedings of the Trial
The press attended the trial despite Paltrow’s best attempts to keep them away. Several witnesses, including Sanderson and Paltrow, have publicly taken the stand. When Paltrow entered the witness, she reportedly broke down in tears and told the jury that she had been skiing safely before the tragedy and felt terrified thereafter.
On the other hand, Sanderson detailed the devastating effects of his injuries on every aspect of his life. This included his ability to work and participate in what he formerly loved. Sanderson said Paltrow had left him lying on the ground, hurt, and refused to accept responsibility for her part in the incident.
The trial’s verdict is still up in the air at this time. Sanderson has given information that contradicts Paltrow and her legal team’s claims that he caused the accident. The jury must decide whether to hold Paltrow liable for Sanderson’s injuries and whether she was at fault.
