Before the Nineties movies made us drop our jaws in awe with their raw beauty, the Eighties represented the next generation of panache and style.
Scarface
You may disagree with us. But we believe Al Pacino‘s greatest works will always be – Scent of a Woman, The Devil’s Advocate, and Scarface. Scarface si an ultra-violent and grim tale of a gangster’s rags to riches story. It has come of Pacino’s career best performances that are hard to beat even by the actors of today’s generation.
Indiana Jones & The Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Lucasfilm was not satisfied with giving us Star Wars. They went on to make another incredible franchise that stood the test of time. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark remains a piece of history even today. It has action, drama, adventure, and mythology in the correct amounts.
Aliens
Even today, James Cameron’s Aliens is considered way ahead of its time. It also features some of the greatest, most creative special effects ever made.

Ghostbusters
Four odd people come together to vanquish demonic and paranormal creatures that plague New York. Ghostbusters is still revered as the gold standard of fresh and clean comedy, something Hollywood sorely lacks these days.
Dead Poets Society
After watching this movie, we all wanted a teacher like John Keating in our lives. This rebellious English teacher taught us the way of the world, that you don’t have to live life according to others’ rules. Keating is still an inspiration to many. If you haven’t watched Dead Poets Society, you haven’t lived.
The Princess Bride
Many may not know this but the movie is based on a book of the same name by William Goldman. The princess bride is a tale of fantasy and romance that grips your heart from start to finish. It is one of the most rewatchable movies of all time.
The Breakfast Club
A cult classic unlike any other. The Breakfast Club is the story of five high school students. All the students come from different backgrounds and have a different mindset. These five children face detention in the school library. As time passes, they realize they aren’t that different after all.
The Lost Boys

E.T The Extra Terrestrial
The original Steven Spielberg classic had to be on this list. If we are making a list on iconic 1980’s movies, how could we not include the story of an innocent light-bulb fingered alien from outer space?
The Terminator
The Eighties were a good year for James Cameron. He gave us back to back cult classics. In 1984, he directed the legendary terminator movie, with Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the titular role of the hunter-killer android. The rest, ladies and gentlemen, is history.
The Goonies

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
A list about Eighties’ greatest movies must have at least one Star Wars movie in it. That’s the unwritten rule. We could have included Return of the Jedi but The Empire Strikes back took precedence. It was the first Star Wars movie to be released that decade and paved the way for science fiction movies for the years to come.
Back To The Future
Back To The Future is the only movie franchise with two entries on this list. And with good reason. The first Back To The Future movie involved Marty McFly traveling back in time and ensuring his parents fall in love with him so that he isn’t erased out of existence.
