How I Met Your Mother

The show’s ending was supposed to be Tracy surviving that mysterious sickness that ended her life as revealed in the finale. If Tracy indeed made it back alive, it means Ted and Robin wouldn’t have ended up together. And the emotional impact would have been very different.

Parks And Recreation

This was confirmed by the show’s creator Mike Schur. In Season 2 or Season 3 of the sitcom, Andy was being prepared to take charge of the office of the Mayor of Pawnee. Schur says:

“[Andy] was going to shine everyone’s shoes and everyone who meets him loves him…And one point in Season 2 or Season 3, we were like, ‘Andy’s going to be the mayor someday!'”

Lost

The final episode of Lost was supposed to feature a giant volcano erupting as Jack and The Man in Black fought. The volcano was even hinted at in previous episodes. Creator damon Londolf said:

The volcano had been dormant for the duration of the series, but based on moving into this endgame, the island had become unstable and the volcano was going to erupt.”

Friends

Rachel was never supposed to get off the plane. Ross and Rachel were originally fated to never ever be together. The original ending involved the six friends parting ways separately instead of together.

Breaking Bad

The creators originally thought of an ending where Walt either breaks into jail to save Jesse Pinkman or an alternate ending where literally everyone dies. What a sad way to go for Walter White!!

Seinfeld

In an insane alternate ending that was being planned for the cult classic sitcom, the jury was going to find the gang not guilty instead of guilty. That would have altered the ending drastically.

Hannah Montana

This might be the kicker for many fans of the Disney series. The last episode of the final season of Hannah Montana would show a young Miley who reveals everything that happened earlier was just her imagination. A young Miley was merely dreaming of being a secret superstar. Thankfully, that ending was avoided.

The Vampire Diaries

Stefan and Damon were being planned to be killed off. The brothers would die and the viewers would see their sacrifice leading to Elena living a happy, full life. The ending was changed because the show extended to more seasons than originally planned.

Pretty Little Liars

The original ending involved A.D never having to reveal her identity to everyone. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Troian Bellisario said the only person who would know A.D.’s identity was Toby. The Liars would never get to know who the person is.

Gossip Girl

The creators wanted Eric or Nate to be the Gossip Girl, not Dan Humphrey. But the plan was foiled by New York Times. Executive Producer Joshua Safran stated in an interview:

“I always thought it was Eric until the end of Season 2, and I even guided it that way. When the New York Post revealed it was Eric…we realized we couldn’t go down that road anymore.”

Scandal

Huck was supposed to kill Cyrus after discovering Cyrus had killed David Rosen. He was supposed to do that with his signature toolbox. That would have been some ending!!

Dexter

The alternate ending of Dexter that was planned by the writers of the show was radical in every sense of the word. Dexter was supposed to wake up from a dream. He would find himself on the Executioner’s Table in the Florida State Penitentiary. All of the episodes were his hallucinations.

The Sopranos

Apparently the show runner wanted the final episode to make it clear that Tony was going to get shot by a mysterious figure that got the jump on him.

“The scene cut as the guy was advancing towards him, as if he was about to shoot Tony. It was, I think, less ambiguous that Tony was going to get shot.”

13 Reasons Why

Hannah Baker was never supposed to die. She was going to survive her suicide attempt. That would have made the story so weak in its impact. Thank goodness this ending was scrapped for the original darker one.

The Originals

Klaus and Caroline were slated to get together in the end. That ending was changed because the change in the ending of The Vampire Diaries.
