The DC Universe is now being rebooted by James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, and a lineup of exciting new projects has already been confirmed. Gunn has been assembling a talented group of actors to bring the characters to life.
DC is envisioned as having updated yet classic storylines. James Gunn has clarified any ambiguity over returning characters in DC Studios’ reboot by providing more information about the new DC Universe.
Dozens of New Actors are Officially Confirmed
The actors who played the roles previously will reprise them, but they won’t be precisely the same as their DCEU counterparts because of Gunn’s DC Universe’s new tone.
James Gunn and Peter Sarfan officially confirmed 14 actors for the next phase of DCU.
David Harbour as Frankenstein. The intent behind his portrayal of Frankenstein in Creature Commandos was to be a play on Frankenstein himself. In Creatures Commandos, Indira Verma will make her DC Universe debut as The Bride of Frankenstein.
The ruthless government officer Amanda Waller, will be reprised by Viola Davis. She has also been given the go-ahead to star in her own Max series, Waller, and we can only hope that she will appear in plenty of DCU films and series.
David Corenswet will make his Superman debut in the 2025 film Superman: Legacy, which is being directed by Gunn himself. James Gunn has indicated the traits he was looking for in an actor to don the Superman cape. It must be someone who possesses all of Superman’s humanity while also being an alien. David Corenswet seems to be the ideal choice to portray The Man of The Steel.
Other confirmed casts are- Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Superman’s love interest, Sean Gunn will reprise his role as Weasel and voice G.I Robot in Creature Commandos. Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova will make her debut under Gunn’s leadership in the DCU who will play Princess Ilana Rostovic in Creature Commandos. Zoë Chao will play the role of Nina Mazursky.
Along with Frank Grillo and Maria Bakalova, Alan Tudyk will also appear in Creature Commandos as Doctor Phosphorus. John Cena will be back for Peacemaker Season 2 when its work resumes. Steve Agee will be returning as John Economos in the second season of Peacemaker.
Recently, Jason Momoa himself reaffirmed that Aquaman‘s future is secure in the DC Universe. When asked about the future of Aquaman in the DCU, Momoa had this to say: “I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU. It’s on, bro”.
Fans are excited to see these beloved characters return to their screens.
James Gunn Confirmed the Rebooted DC Universe Will Differ from DCEU
James Gunn admitted that the DCEU’s disconnectivity is a major issue and that it is his and Safran’s responsibility to fix it. His DC Universe will be connected across film, television, animation, and video games.
Gunn told Variety.
“For us to truly thrive as a studio, we need to honor the past of these characters while simultaneously seeing them in a new light.”
Speaking on the Inside of You podcast, Gunn claimed that the DCU would maintain secret identities as a key element while leaning more toward the fantasy setting of traditional comic books.
Gunn and fellow co-CEO Peter Safran finally unveiled their DCU master plan on January 31, 2023, at the DC event held in Burbank, California.
