One of the main topics of discussion lately is anything and everything surrounding the James Bond Franchise. The movies have created various legacies, leaving an indelible mark on the film industry. With the end of another era of 007, after Daniel Craig retired from the role, the one question on everyone’s tongue is, who will fill his shoes and take up the role of the British spy?
While an official list has been released for possible contenders, fans tend to put forth suggestions of their own. All of this, however, has not stopped actors from being vocal about their desire to play the character. One such actor, who has talked about wanting to put on the suit and tie is Black Adam himself, Dwayne Johnson.
Dwayne Johnson Wants to Play James Bond
The ex-wrestler Dwayne Johnson has been quite vocal about his desire to play James Bond. During an interview with Esquire, Johnson talked about how he would like to follow in the footsteps of Daniel Craig and play the British spy after his retirement from the character.
“I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond,” He said “I don’t want to be a villain,” he continued. “You gotta be Bond.”
The star went on to say that he would not like to play a Bond villain, he would like to play Bond himself.
Dwayne Johnson Cannot Play James Bond According to Bond Casting Director
Debbie McWilliams is the casting director of the Bond franchise, having worked in No Time to Die and Spectre. She recently did an interview with The Radio Times where she talked about what she is looking for in the next James Bond. In this, she explicitly mentioned that Bond cannot be someone who looks like Dwayne Johnson.
“He [James Bond] has to look like a regular guy… You can’t be Dwayne Johnson. He has to have a great physique. It [the role] demands a high level of fitness, but he shouldn’t stand out in any situation.” she mentioned.
She went on to say that Bond is someone who has to be in peak physical shape but cannot stand out as that defeats the purpose of being a spy. She kind of made it explicitly clear that Johnson would not be the right person for the role. Other than this, however, there doesn’t seem to be any other specific criterion to play 007.
