Popular for starring as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Pratt is one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. However, the actor has still been given the title of “Hollywood’s least favorite Chris.” While the industry professionals who have worked with the actor along with his co-stars have nothing but good things to say about him, not everyone shares the same opinion as them.
The actor once became the target of netizens after his comment on blue-line Americans’ representation in the film industry during an interview with Men’s Health.
Chris Pratt on Blue Collar America’s Representation in Hollywood
Featuring on Men’s Fitness‘ April 2017 cover, Chris Pratt opened up about wanting to share a story that would resonate with people he felt had been ignored by Hollywood. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor shared his disappointment with the lack of diversity in Hollywood, saying,
“I don’t see personal stories that necessarily resonate with me, because they’re not my stories. I think there’s room for me to tell mine, and probably an audience that would be hungry for them. The voice of the average, blue-collar American isn’t necessarily represented in Hollywood.”
The actor further stated that he wants to bridge the politicized differences by focusing on the common grounds on both sides, as he does not feel that he could fit on either side. And he shared that he has been working on a script to do something similar based on his story.
However, his statement was not received very well, leading him to become the subject of another social media backlash, with many claiming that the actor doesn’t seem to watch too many movies. Pratt later shared a post owning up to his mistake.
Chris Pratt Apologized For His Statement
Chris Pratt’s statement about blue cooler Americans did not go very well with people who shared their disagreement with his thoughts and even called the actor out for his claims. Netizens claimed that the actor was being unreasonable, considering he portrayed a shoe shiner in a popular sitcom.
They also stated that there are multiple movies representing blue-collar Americans. The Passenger star noted his mistake and apologized for the things he said after the online criticism. Following the backlash for his comments made on blue-collar Americans, The Hollywood star took to Twitter to apologize for his statement.
“That was actually a pretty stupid thing to say. I’ll own that. There’s a ton of movies about blue-collar America,” he said in a tweet admitting that he was wrong in saying so. Pratt, who has been quite open about his less-privileged childhood and his family’s struggles, has played a shoe shiner in the popular sitcom Parks and Recreation. And it seems that people’s reaction to his statement has made him aware not only of his show but also of many other movies that represent blue-collar Americans.
