Much before the show started streaming on Disney+; it was common knowledge that Marvel’s WandaVision was based on the limited comic series House of M. However, where the Scarlet Witch awaits a tragic end in the comics, fate has better things in store for her in WandaVision.

While the writers incorporated the most interesting bits from House of M into the show, the stark difference between their themes is impossible to miss, even with Elizabeth Olsen’s nuanced performance.
1. House of M is far away from the rose-petalled romance WandaVision has: Unlike other superhero productions, WandaVision was less about the action and more about emotions and human sentiments. The show beautifully encapsulates some of the most wholesome and heartwarming moments on television, collocated with moments of despair. Unfortunately, the same does not apply to the origin story.

2. Agatha Harkness: In House of M, Wanda goes on a rampage, destroying the Avengers and her mentor, Agatha Harkness. However, in WandaVision, Agatha’s character is kept alive and is key to the show’s plot.
3. Vision: Remember how we mentioned Wanda killing the Avengers? Well, the list includes Vision as well. This is the very reason why the Avengers and X-Men chase her in the first place. Thus, unlike in WandaVision, Vision makes no appearance in the comics.
4. The X-Men and the Avengers: While WandaVision has an excellent cast lineup, many of the characters from House of M are missing from the show. While the groups play a central role in the narrative of House of M, no cameos are reserved for Earth’s mightiest heroes in the series.
5. Monica Rambeau: Monica doesn’t play any significant role in the comics like Vision and Agatha, probably since the Captain Marvel mantle was taken from her. However, like Vision and Agatha, she is an essential part of the plot.
6. The Final Brawl: It’s but obvious that a well-directed live-action fight will outgun a comic book fight scene any day. Although fans say otherwise, the final battle between Wanda, Agatha, and the two Visions is the pivotal moment in WandaVision everyone looked forward to. And boy did it deliver!
7. Wanda: As hard as it is to believe, Wanda’s involvement in the House of M is minimal. After her appearance in the first issue, she disappears till the end of the series. As a stark contrast, she is the central character of the show, and the plot entirely revolves around her actions and emotions.
8. We don’t see Wanda’s full potential: WandaVision may be an excellent show, but it’s inaccurate in its representation of the Scarlet Witch. While her sentimental side was necessary and welcomed, viewers were let down by the power imbalance between comic Wanda and MCU Wanda. In the show, we see Wanda struggling to control one town. In the comics, she effortlessly controls the entire fabric of reality.
9. S.WO.R.D.: For some reason, WandaVision portrays S.WO.R.D., not as a space-focused organization but rather a version of S.H.I.E.L.D. Run by Abigail Brand in the comics, the MCU storyline doesn’t fit the agency well.
10. Different Plots: The show features a devastated Wanda, taking over a small town and turning it into her haven. The plot that follows is like any other MCU production. An agency gets involved, and a climactic fight ensues. House of M follows the conflict between Wanda and the Avengers and X-Men.
